This post shares my favorite penguin books for kids, along with paired ELA activities that support vocabulary, comprehension and a variety of standards-based skills appropriate for grades kindergarten, first grade, and second grade.
Today, I’m sharing six of the best penguin books for kids! These picture books are great for classroom read-alouds or snuggling up to read before bedtime. They’re most appropriate for students in grades pre-k to second grade, while the paired activities lend themselves to kindergarten, first grade, and second grade skills. I love to teach about penguins during the month of January, since it’s generally pretty cold during this time of year. Students love the non-fiction reads just as much as they love the fiction texts, so be sure to add a variety into your classroom library.
Each book spotlighted below is paired with a set of ELA activities for supporting, enhancing, and extending the text in the classroom or homeschool environment, so that your lesson plans are ready to roll and you can simply teach! They’re Common Core standards-aligned, focused on comprehension, vocabulary and a variety of ELA skills, and include three differentiated assessments. BOOM DONE.
