Just popping’ in on this terribly raining Tuesday (which I kind of like because it seems very fall-ish today) to say hey with a little throw-back and a freebie!
So, back in the day…like Fall 2006…I had my very first teaching practicum. Of all things my collaborating teacher could assign me to teach for my mini-unit, she chose Halloween Safety. I mean, seriously. This was, perhaps, the most unfun thing I could possibly imagine teaching, and of all the wonderful fall themes this is what she selected. Furthermore, once I began researching material for said unit I could find NOTHING worthy of building a unit around. The most I had to work with was a generic coloring book issued by the local fire department. Boo.
So, I did what all wannabe teachers would do pre-Teachers Pay Teachers, I wrote my own dang book. I even had it laminated and bound at Staples for like a thousand dollars. (I was newly married, so it was probably the equivalent of a thousand dollars in newlywed-we’re-poor money.)
I present, Sophie’s Safe Halloween…
Though I could definitely spice this up with graphics and fonts today, I kinda love the old-fashionedness of it. Born out of necessity with a lot of handwork and dedication within 8 little pages 🙂
One more quick thing today – a little freebie! Click the graphic below to get FREE printable for a little Halloween costume creativity. Kiddos will decorate a door and when the door “opens,” it will reveal an illustration of their costumes! Perfect for a hallway display or a Halloween party activity!
